App connectors

Connecting apps to MDCA gives added visibility into cloud application activities and in some cases you will be able to take governance actions on accounts in those applications.

Below you will find a list of cloud apps and notes for some I thought worthwhile sharing. It is always a good idea to connect Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 if they are not already connected in your environment. Both of these are needed to get the most out of MDCA outside the Cloud discovery dashboard.

Microsoft 365

This connector is usually connected by default but not fully. If you select the application and choose edit you can enable the remaining settings. Be sure to enable file monitoring so you can enable all settings.

  • Microsoft Entra Users and groups
    • Required, to disable you would need to remove the application
  • Microsoft Entra ID Management events
  • Microsoft Entra ID Sign-in events
  • Microsoft Entra ID Apps
    • Enables the OAuth app and app governance pages and features in MDCA
  • Microsoft 365 activities
  • Microsoft 365 files

Microsoft Azure

Azure is very easy to connect, you just need some administrative rights to make the connection, Security administrator is enough to make the connection.

This connection will monitor Entra ID (previously called Azure AD), for sign-in events and administrative activities.
